Thread Links

Postby coco » Sat 03.08.2008 9:16 pm

I've found URL of each thread has changed from "viewthead" to "viewtopic", "forum_ id" to "f", "thread_id" is "t".
e.g.
old site:
/forum/viewthread.php?forum_id=13&thread_id=138
current site:
/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=138

In (on?) the forums, there are many posts which show other threads or posts.
Is there any way to make URL change automatically?

You are very smart Coco!

Sure, I'll have Joe in Australia do that. He may not get to it this week, though.

Good idea.

This this ever get fixed? (it doesn't look like it did)

It appears to just take people to the front page now. I wonder if we could write aliases for this stuff... hrm.

Probably the better route would be to write a script to go through the old forum database and correct the URL's automatically.

Thanks Coco, Phreadom and Txkun, I’ve overlooked this important thread. Thanks Coco for the pointer. Now that I understand I can actually easily fix it myself, sorry for the trouble. I’ve tried fixing this link and it worked.

5 今中さん:私は 子供にスペイン語を 教えてあげます。
Imanaka : I teach the children Spanish.

In case of "the children" are not 今中さん's children,
今中: 私は子供にスペイン語を教えています。
is natural. Although してあげる is polite of してやる, it has not always good sounds.
You will see the reason onthis thread. Very nice explanations.
And also Harisenbon-san's post <<<<

In case of something, quoted from there.

It seems that we still need to know how to fix it, as you see in this thread.
If you could help us, that would be great. :) Thank you.

Hi cocosan!
I think so. This is why.
When a php page is called, on the server a small program executes the program containted in the page.
Since the old php page, "viewtopic.php" is not present anymore we have a problem. But if we create a simple php page called as the old one that just sends the parameters to the "viewtopic.php" page we can leave all the old links as they are. The php code will redirect for us. It's not pretty maybe but it should work!

This should be totally taken care of now. If you find any other links that aren't working, please let me know. :)

Thank you very much, Phreadom.

One thing, I'm not sure if it is my pc's problem. Can we make a link open in a new browser window?

I'm constantly doing that, you just have to right-click and choose "Open link in new tab/window". Which browser do you use?

In FireFox you can just middle click (click the wheel) to open a link in a new Window. :)
