Look Here!
Look Here!
Hey everybody I just joined the forum today and am learning japanese(started out awhile back). I was just wondering how you all can type in kanji, kiragana, and katakana. Is there some sort of program I have to download or a thing on my browser I need to activate? Any help would be appreciated!

RE: Look Here!

If you use Windows XP, then try to find your Service package 2 CD. That CD has the files for asian scripts if I remember correctly.

And definitely if you have Windows XP, don't bother with NJStar. The native IME is much better integrated into Windows than NJStar will be.

You don't need an SP2 CD in particular. I've never had SP1 or SP2 in CD form, and I enabled the Asian fonts and IME just fine. You may need the Windows XP installation disc, though.Xurma wrote:

Actually, if you go to the Microsoft website, http://www.microsoft.com, you can download the IME for 日本語. I couldn't find my CD, so I just went there and it downloaded perfectly to my (somewhat older) Windows XP
Re: Look Here!
I think that IME on Microsoft's page only works in IE and Outlook and not in other programs though...

(Thought it was best not to start a new thread)
I've only started learning Japanese yesterday, and installed the IME for Vista today, but whenever I type 'konnichi wa', it comes up as こんにちわ, which I know isn't correct. Does anyone know why this is?

Re: Look Here!
When you type "wa" in the IME, you'll always get わ, since it can't tell you want the particle; you have to type kon'nichiha to get こんにちは. You'll eventually get the hang of wapuro romaji.

Ahh, thank you! It doesn't quite make sense to me, but I'll just have to live with it.

Why doesn't it make sense? It's not any different from remembering to write "ha" instead of "wa" when you're writing with a pencil or pen, is it?
