RSS feed content
The RSS feed was just pointed out to me. Thanks for establishing it.
HOWEVER, when I pointed my Google reader at it, I see it only has a very small
selection of postings. For example only four for April, when in fact there have
been a heap. What is up? If the feed is not complete it is virtually useless.
Cheers
Jim

Re: RSS feed content
It looks like the RSS feed that Prof. Breen was directed to on sci.lang.japan is to the Groups feature of Drupal, not the forums. Googling RSS phpbbs gives mucho hits, so it seems there are various mods that would allow it (and get Prof. Breen participating here) but I don't know how much work they'd be for phreadom/whoever to install, or how far down the priority list that would fall.

Naruhodo.
So the URL "http://www.thejapanesepage.com/rss.xml" looks like an RSS
feed to thejapanesepage, quacks and waddles like one, but isn't really
one.
Wouldn't it be better to make it go away entirely, rather than give the
impression there is a service when there isn't?

Personally, I think better labling would work. Say "RSS feed for groups and blogs" and "RSS feed for Forum"
and of course, make them work.

Re: RSS feed content
Ok, I've added in Syndication for the forum.
You'll find the button right above the login/logout link towards the upper right corner of the forum (below the drupal RSS icon).
create_syndication.php
You can edit your preferred type of feed (RSS or Atom) in your User Settings under Board Preferences.
ucp.php?i=prefs&mode=personal
"Preferred syndication method: ( )Atom (*)RSS2"
This should be a good start.
Let me know if you have questions or problems.

Also, how do I turn on syndication for more than one forum?

Sorry about that Jim, it should be fixed now. Can you give it another try?
As for selecting more than one forum, you can hold CTRL while you click which forums in the list you'd like included. This allows multiple selections. You can just check the "All Forums" checkbox below the list if you want them all.
Hope this helps.

Trying again. I got further this time. Google got an "untitled feed"which is
empty. I'll see if this message appears on it.
Thanks.

Perhaps I should log in as a normal user and try doing what you're doing... I'll try to figure out what this Google RSS reader is that you're using and give it a shot myself. Should save you some of the hassle.

I see what you mean now... something is definitely not right.
I'm trying to figure it out.

Re: RSS feed content
Live Bookmarks (in Firefox) seem to work just fine.
I'll work on replacing the RSS link on the front page with a link to a page giving a choice of RSS feed now that we have the Phreadom to choose
(bad pun)

Yeah, the Live Bookmarks works fine here as well. Google Reader seems to have trouble with it though.. I'm trying to figure out what might be giving Google Reader trouble specifically.

Still nothing coming through in Google Reader. Maybe I'll delete it and try again.

Re: RSS feed content
I think I might know the problem... let me try something.
UPDATE: Still not working in Google Reader.
I've tried it in Live Bookmarks in FireFox, that works great... I've tried it in Outlook 2007, that works great... (if the feed requires you to be a registered user, Outlook 2007 asks you for your login/password and then works fine. Otherwise if I have guest access enabled it just adds it normally. But not even guest access helped for Google Reader)
I'll keep trying to figure this out Jim. Thanks for the troubleshooting and sorry for the trouble.
