I was wandering how traditional music was written in order to be transmitted, before the occidental transcriptions were introduced (to tell the truth, I don't know if they are used now for traditional japanese music), or what the equivalent was of the present music score for traditional instruments.
I searched the forum, but did not find anything related...
I searched Google, and found that the music scores were related each to an instrument, examples found only for sakuhachi and biwa.
Could someone be kind enough to tell if there was really no "universal" music writing, and what was done for the transmission of flute or taiko, or nô partitions, multiple instruments music ...?
Thanks in advance
