Re: My son has cancer
I've been advised (by a cousin who is a retired Army nurse) to push for his speedy transfer stateside, where he would have access to specialists who could give him the best of care, so hopefully he'll be transferred before you would have an opportunity to go down there. Thank you for the offer.

Re: My son has cancer
I talked to my son again this morning. What he told me on Sunday was apparently just his fear and pain talking; he doesn't have a diagnosis yet. The doctor at the base clinic thinks he may have had an anal fissure that caused him such pain during a bowel movement. He's scheduled for a colonoscopy on the 27th at the Okinawa naval hospital.

The fact that they will wait until the 27th is probably a good sign, don't you think? As Clay said, may it be nothing more than what you suggested, Rich.

Well, speaking as one who suffers from chronic... well, I can relate to that doctor's diagnosis. About every four to six weeks I have a nasty flareup of rather uncomfortable sitting that lasts for a few days.
I went through a "Maybe I have The Cancer!" fear before a doctor examined me and said I had "Amy Fishers."
So, yeah -- unpleasant, but let's hope that's all it is.

whichever the diagnosis, I pray he is fine and that whatever it is will be able to be taken care of quickly and efficiently.

Woah, Rich, I only just now read this post.
But I'm relieved it doesn't look as grim now as in the first page of this thread.
Must be hell to have him so far away......
My thoughts are with you and lets hope the 27th gives good news!

How is he holding up? Please tell him he has a lot of people at TJP pulling for him!

I chatted with him Sunday, and he now says the doctor thinks it's stress and overwork. We're waiting for the colonoscopy and its results.

Let's hope.
I can testify that stress has a BAD influence on the lower GI tract. There's a reason we have the saying "get your bowels in an uproar."

Re: My son has cancer
I got an email from my son just now, he only had an initial consultation this week. The real colonoscopy is on the 6th of June.

Hi Rich. As a parent with a son in Japan, I can feel your heartache! Not being able to do anything right now. Is there any way they will allow you to see him or visit him? Will they be sending him home?
