app to learn japanese
Hi,
I've been working on an application for a month and I wanted to know if it's usefull(good) and what people think about it. It's free, and released beta. The only thing I need is the approval of TJP on my Kanji Database. After that, if people needs it, i'll put it on an ftp or something. Here are pictures, tell me about it.

So, what do you think about it...
thank's
Alexthemaster
P.S. By the way, who is the furom admin, I want to send him the kanji DB...

Re: app to learn japanese
romanji - roumaji (or "romaji", you can also put a line or a carat over the o)

Feel free to use anything on the site (please kindly give us a link back, though). If you want to use something someone wrote here in the forums, please ask them personally first.

Personally, I would be wary of using study software for a language that was written by someone who didn't know that ローマ字 is not spelled "romanji." Also, what's with the gradiant on the word カタカナ? Finally, there seems to be a lot of empty space floating around there. If you don't plan to display anything there, you should probably cut down the whitespace as much as possible.
**just some minor nitpicks.

Thanks' Clay, I put a link to the site in the browser, to guide people with further information that i can't give them.
Harisenbon, i liked your comments about my application, but i think most of people spell romanji like that don't you?... if you think i'm not suited or experimented enought, why don't you join the project, I'll be happy to work with someone who know more japanese than me, seriously i'm not sarcastic. You really seem to know what your talking about.
P.S. I don't think i've mentioned it but from the start, i wanted to write a software that ccould help me learning japanese but finally i decided to try myself asking people if they need it, so I consider that this application is not for advanced people for now.

I think most people who spell it "romanji" know next to nothing about Japanese.

Your katakana/hiragana column is messed up for anything that never appears as a standalone kanji without okurigana (trailing kana) and a few that can be stand-alone kanji. For instance, 書 isn't read かく, 書く is read かく. 見 isn't read みる, it's read み; 見る is みる. You'd be better off eliminating that column entirely and just having the onyomi and kunyomi.

yes that's exactly what i figured out when I studied verbs a couple of minutes ago .. I was like o you're kidding me
anyways that's only one column... ok i'll do what you said because i don't really encourage romaji personnaly.

Re: app to learn japanese
I have, on the old kanji pages, a 'common pronunciation' for people to concentrate on one of the most common readings for each kanji. Is that what you mean for the 'katakana' column? Like Rich said, it may be best to take that column out for clarity.
I'm sure your project will greatly help your studies. Maybe other learners would be willing to help you out with testing.

Yes that's exactly what i wanted to do with the "katakana/hiragana" column, i think i should change the name for comon usage or something like that. At least my application is getting better
.
