New classified JLPT will start in 2010

Postby coco » Sun 06.08.2008 8:52 pm

As we already talked about this in this thread, JLPT will be restructured.

Here is the report (PDF file).

It doesn't seem to be a final decision, but they have decided the outline of new JLPT.

The new test will be:
N1:現行試験の1級と合格レベルはほぼ同じですが、従来より若干高めの範囲まで
能力測定ができるように改定します
N2:現行試験の2級とほぼ同レベル
N3:現行試験の2級と3級の間のレベル
N4:現行試験の3級とほぼ同レベル
N5:現行試験の4級とほぼ同レベル

The points are:
1) N1 will be more difficult than 1級.
2) They set up N3, will be harder than 3級, easier than 2級.

4.試験問題の非公開
これまでは日本語能力試験の問題は、実施した翌年の春には問題集として出版されて
いました。しかし新試験からは、レベルイメージ(表2参照)やサンプル問題などは公
表しますが、問題は全て非公開となります。

They will forbid the examination questions to be published.

I haven't really been following this whole thing...Are they simply adding these new levels, or are they completely changing the whole number system that they have now?

Also...boo on no publishing questions.

You can see "Point for Revision" in English.
"Second progress Report concerning test revisions" was released in Japanese, but English version isn't uploaded yet. I am guessing they will soon ( within a couple of weeks) upload it in English.

I think the final report including details will be announced in 2009 spring.

You are going to take JLPT 4kyuu in this year, aren't you?
Good luck with your Japanese studies. :)

cocoさん、
貴重な情報をpostしてくれてありがとうございました。私もpieさん同様、過去問題集をもう公開しないということは残念だと思います。()

I am, and thank you :). I'm thinking of bumping it up to 3kyuu because I know most of 4 already, but I haven't decided ^^;.

I guess I'm just afraid that certificates earned before 2010 would be considered obsolete or something, but I guess a certificate is a certificate, eh?

They'll be equally as meaningless afterwards as they were before.

Don't some Japanese colleges require JLPT for foreign students though, or am I mistaken?
If so, I wouldn't call it meaningless.

Also, when I was studying for the JLPT 1 a couple of years back it certainly gave me the motivation to get out and learn more difficult kanji and literary grammar that I might not have bothered with if not for the test. I'd hardly call that meaningless, even if I never did anything with the certificate afterwards.

Looks good on a CV too.

ベッキーさんのおっしゃる通りです。
日本語能力を応募要件にしている大学院、専門学校、企業の多くは日本語能力試験結果に基づき日本語能力を判断する傾向があります。

http://panasonic.co.jp/scholarship/faq/

Question2.
