I have a Question

Ok so I'm from Northern Ireland and have previously stated what my plans are so won't repeat them here. However, in the Link posted by Clay about the JLPT it says the test is taken in Japan, the rest of the world "elsewhere". I was just wondering if this means I may have to take a trip further abroad in order to do this test?
I mean I haven't looked all that hard but so far cannot find any evidence of this test being available in the UK. If anyone can help it'll be appreciated, and I won't be able to answer any responses until tomorrow, but thanks in advance for any help

1. It's to "prove" your efficency (right word??) of the Japanese language.
2. To get certified...most people take it to become translators, I'm guessing.

*shrugs* It's WAY more than 50...4k was just the first number off the top of my head...so I knew it'd be wrong.

I think more ~1k...(not a number off the top of my head).

Ummm...not for sure where you're getting your numbers from, but it's defiantly not that expensive. Might want research things just a tiny bit before you start making wild guesses...

Well, at least in Japan it's 5000 yen, which translates to about 50 american Dollars. are you sure you mean k? 1000 dollars for a test?

In no specific order,

The Japanese proficiency test is a test designed to judge your proficiency of the Japnaese langauge. The test is entirely multiple choice, and consists of Kanji, Grammar, Vocabulary and Listening sections.

There are 4 levels with 1 being the hardest, and 4 being the easiest.

When you pass the test, you get a nice certificate that says you passed, and your score. Passing the test can be used to enter a Japanese college (level 2) or find a job in Japan (level 1).

I thought it was more than 50? I mean, the highest certification for a Computer Network Systems major is like, 5k (no guessing here). JPLT is about the same (purpose-wise) as that.

To add more detail about the cost of the test:
Levels 1 and 2 cost $50 USD.
Levels 3 and 4 cost $40 USD.
I know for sure cuz I paid it. :D

The JFLA is who we Americans (or really, "in America test-takers") have to contact to register for the JLPT in the States. The site has more info about the test as well.

What cert are you getting? If you're talking about MCSE's then they're $125 per test flat fee. MCSE is a series of 6 tests, sure, so that jacks up your overall cost.

Pile on top of that any books, instructional courses, cram aids, practice tests... yeah, you can easily hit $5000 for exams and prep materials.

But you can't say that's how much the exam costs to take, those are choices you made in preparation for the exam.
