Gap years

Does anyone know of any gap year programs in Japan that allow you to study and earn money at the same time? Would it be worth doing something like this, or too expensive?

perhaps if you were to give us a defination as to what in the hades a gap year or gap year program is, we could help you. If you aren't willing to do that, we can't be of much help, now can we?

Rather that be put off by our ignorance to your term, educate us, so we can help educate you.

Probably the same dumb people who don't know what GCSE is.

I didn't know what a GSCE is although I know what a gap year is. Your reaction to the fact that UK terminology is not universal only highlights your own ignorance.

Exactly, the OP should assume, as the majority of posters do, that everyone lives in the USA and uses USA terminology

To be fair I should have searched google or wikipedia instead of posting to the thread, but I had never heard the term "gap year" in my life before this thread. Obviously I know what the concept is, I just had never heard of the term for it.

(I guess I'm still not 100% certain whether the term is used just to refer to any time off between phases of school, or whether there's something more official in some country's school system called a "gap year")

In this country it has only become popular in fairly recent times but, in my experience at least, it is limited to a relatively small percentage of those students who complete high school and are going on to tertiary studies. There is certainly nothing official in the school system however the majority of university acceptances have the ability to be deferred for 12 months.

The Australian Defence Forces have recently launched a recruiting campaign aimed specifically at gap year school leavers/students.
