Makoto's First 親父ギャグ
Yesterday, Makoto and I went for a walk. We spotted a combine harvesting the rice crop. (They had just planted the rice when we arrived in May--seems like the year is all but over now...) コンバイン has become one of Makoto's favorite words and things.
Seeing the combine, he turned to me and said, 「コンバインは」
I see a bright future for him--maybe in Manzai? Or perhaps as a bilingual comedian on the international circuit. Who knows?

Re: Makoto's First 親父ギャグ
Both phrases look exactly the same to me, except one has some parts in bold, so I don't get the joke. It is probably a vocabulary issue, but I'd really like to know why it's funny.
Yes, I know jokes become less funny when they must be explained... but please humor me.

Bold parts + は = コンバンは。

「コンバインは」 is what Makoto Said
コンバンは is the source of the joke.
You might need to click the link that clay gave to understand the joke a bit better.

Sorry, I haven't been here since this morning. Yes, the joke is コンバイン sounds like こんばん. He looked at the combine, turned to me and just said it as natural as can be.

Mm, I read his blog post, too, but it was about the same as what he wrote here. Seems stupidly obvious now, but I was reading it before with the イ still in there before....

山田くん、全部もっていきなさい!
I have to admit, that's my favorite show on television.

Poor Yamada-kun. や~ね!
It is a great show. It is probably the only show we watched religiously every Sunday night in Florida (Since we've been in Japan, we seem to always miss it or don't realize it is Sunday...)
