Any taiko players here?

Postby taiko_player » Sat 08.16.2008 10:05 am

Hi

I started playing taiko in august 2007. As i live in Switzerland and taiko groups are rare in this country, i can hardly exchange thoughts, ideas or whatever to this subect.
Maybe there's somebody out there?

I studied taiko for a while when I lived in northern California.

The only thing I can remember well enough to probably pull off after 15 years is "Matsuri."

Ooh, me too! Especially 夏祭り by whiteberry. Unfortunately I have no sense of rhythm and totally suck at it  , but I still enjoy it.

I just remembered something.

The very first record (remember those?) I ever bought in Japan was an album of the Masakado Daiko troupe from Kanda Jinja. That was all the way back in the spring of 1986.

Record? Don't you mean vinyl? lol

Shoot, I used to ask my friends for recordings of taiko and then I'd go back to my apartment when I had time and bang out the beats on anything that made noises. I always wished I had the opportunity to join or practice with a troupe.

I don't think you can buy any kind of record nowadays, unless it's second hand.

IIRC there are wax records.. and polystyrene (7 inch records) and shelac as well.. I'm trying to think what the original discs were made of.. was it some sort of metal? it was the 1800's IIRC.
