There's a Japanese translation of Snow-crash???? I'd be very interested to see what it's like, even if as you say it's not so great. I'm a big Neal Stephenson fan as well, especially Snow-crash and Diamond Age, and to a lesser degree Cryptonomicon, but I've yet to crack the Baroque Cycle yet, though it's been sitting on my shelf for quite a while now...

Yep, I believe that all of his books have been translated. My ex-boss was a HUGE Stephenson fan. I've only read a few of his books, but rather liked them in english. The main problem I have with the JP version is they refuse to translate ANYTHING that is even slightly out of the ordinary in terms of word use.
I've read MUCH worse translations than the snowcrash one, and I'm sure that if I hadn't already read it in english I would be much more inclined to put up with its eccentricities. I do eventually want to pull out my english version and start comparing them though...
