How do you type hiragana?
Hi, I've been studying for a few months, for no reason, maybe just Japanese seems sort of like the Mount Everest of languages. I notice some people can post with hiragana -- how do you do that?

I've only been here for a little while; and already I see tons of these. You have to install the Japanese IME; from microsoft.

If you have WindowXp then it is easy. Go to your control panel. Then go to the Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options. Click on Add other languages. A new window comes up, make sure it is the language tab is click. Go to detail. Go down to add, this is where you can add the language you want. Make sure to select language and the right keyboard layout. The language bar should appear on the toolbar, which you will need to get started. Following any instruction on how to use. Its all there, just get use to it and everything should be fine. If need further help private message me.

I usually keep JWPCe running in the background, write what i need in that window, and then just copy/paste.
(JWPCe is a freeware japanese word editor/dictionary that can be found at http://www.physics.ucla.edu/~grosenth/c_main.html )

Using JWPCe to copy/paste is inefficient if you have Windows 98 or better. Windows 2000 is easier to run IME than 98, and Windows XP is the easier. Switching between romaji and japanese is as simple as pressing alt+~. I even deleted English from my languages because it doesn't offer anything more than Japanese does.
If you have Windows XP, you don't need to download any extra programs from Microsoft. You might have to copy some files from your install CD.

For Mac OS X, You just click on Edit > Special Characterrs and you double click on the characters you want.

If you have Windows XP or 2000, it's on your installation disk. If you have earlier versions of Windows, you have to download the IME from Microsoft. (Sorry, I don't have the link handy.)
