Hello Praxashok,

Welcome to TJP forums and thank you for joining in the 2kyuu study group.
TJP has just launched, there are still many things to work on according to Clay and Phreadom. We are looking forward to a more user-friendly web based chat to facilitate members who share the same interest to have a corner to discuss relevant issues, points and study materials.

Meantime, you may like to take a look at our previous years’ study group sessions. Feel free to share your comments or post your ideas or ask for help should you have any grammar points that you wish to clarify. You may like to create a new thread for your questions.

Katafei,
Sorry for being late here. To be frank, I was not very sure about this sentence too. If I were to choose, I would choose no. 1 and no. 4.

キャプテン以内7名の選手は厳しい訓練を受けている。
To me, this sentence was like saying --- "Within the captains, 7 of them are chosen and under strict/tough training."
Not sure, seriously.

キャプテン以下7名の選手は厳しい訓練を受けている。
To me, this sentence was like saying --- "Captain + the other 7 chosen members are under strict/tough training."
キャプテン plus 以下7名の選手は厳しい訓練を受けている。

BTW, what is the answer?

----
Write this << I know the answer, but I don't completely understand the meaning.... >> beside the answer sheet and see what you get.

According to the dictionary 以下 has the following meaning

3 代表となるものを含んで、それに関連するすべてのもの。「校長―教職員一同=こうちょう (いか) きょうしょくいん いちどう」 (The director and other teachers all)

Another example is
首相以下諸大臣(しゅしょう いか しょだいじん) the prime minister and other [lesser] ministers

So put the leader or the most important person in the group before 以下, followed by a general noun representing the membership. It is a fairly common expression.

Ranja-san,

It's glad to have you here. Welcome to TJP!

I've looked up online goo and to be honest, still not able to understand this usage of 以下。

My sensei is not as 元気 as before ever since he was unwell few months ago. I try not to bother him so much. Katafei posted this on 28 Oct.. This usage, seriously is beyond my understanding. That's why I hesitated to post a reply. I guess there are still tons of things beyond my understanding ......

I understand that everyone is busy in real life, there are too many things to do, yet so little time. Thank you very much for taking the time to explain, appreciate it, sincerely.

Actually, right now I don't remember where the exercise came from, so I can't check the answer either :

I thought it meant something like:
inncluding (or not counting??) the captain, 7 team members are training intensively.

BTW, at a glance, I don't really understand where the word 'chosen' both of you are using comes from....?

*I'll see if I can find the answer, and then I'll include a spoiler in the original message later today ;)

To Coco, Txkun, Tanuki, Gundaetiapo, Caroline, Katafei, Guldo, Enji and all *さん..

We don't have any opportunity to meet up in chat session ever since 3kyuu exam. It would be nice to have a short gathering after such a long time. Would it be possible to hold one chat session on this coming Sunday, 16 Nov 2008, SST22:00.? Duration say, about 1 hour? We may take this opportunity to give Katafei some cheering.

Missed all of you so much. Looking forward to hearing your reply. Thanks.

I know the answer, but I don't completely understand the meaning....
以 is always included the subject words.

ex...
※ 1さい以上6さい以下means
its included 1さい,2さい、3さい、4さい、5さいand 6さい
※ 今以後 means
it's included now and the future from now
i mean it start from now to ever

※以上means
予想以上の出来 i was imaged something but it did more than I expected.
your予想is included.

※以下同文
以下 it is included which you are writing about and also included the other's which you wanted write with.

you should better to study anout 未 too.

未is always NOT included that word you make. 未means it is not get something of the subject.
ex.
※6さい未満
it say they must be under age 5,it means age 0 to 5. NOT included age 6.

i'm sorry if you guys difficult to understand my english!.:-p

I regret not being more present lately on the forum and not studing much due to the working hours that are growing as always (I spent many saturdays and sundays at work and more are to come).
But I miss too the great time I had talking with you all. So I'll do anything to be online and chat a little! Looking forward to see you all.

ではまた!
そして、Katafeiさん頑張って!
