14 no tanjyoubi omedetou! Or maybe:
14-kai-me no tanjyoubi omedetou!

Kates, you missed the golden opportunity:

"It already *is* in romaji." <wink wink>

But "juu-yon-sai no tanjoubi, omedetou" is more what I'd expect, I think.

*blink blink* I'm not sure I get it. "Happy Birthday" isn't romaji... >_>
(Though, yes, I probably should have written out 14 for him.)

As for my options, the first was my first thought, when I double-checked my dictionary for help, it had:
30回目の誕生日おめでとう! instead of 30の誕生日おめでとう!
So that's why I put both. *shrug*

happy birthday is written in romaji. He was joking because people say translate into romaji like it is a language when all romaji is, is an alphabet. Since happy birthday is already in Roman letters, you missed a chance to poke someone.

The right response would be, "Do you mean translate into Japanese and use romaji?" :)

Ah, I see. I guess I was thinking 'romaji = happi- ba-sudei-' not 'romaji = Roman letters'... ah, well, whatevah.
