Simple All (Or close to it) Japanese Chat for Beginners :)

Konbanwa, everyone ^^ Beginners can practice real conversation here. Romanji is fine. Ask questions as well and hopefully get some answers (still new to Japanese, won't be able to help grammer ?s TOO much ^^; ).

こんばんはさちさん!はじめまして。私はニコラスです。おげんきですか。私は日本人のがくせいです。

猫(ねこ)はいえのなかにいますか。

さようなら。

There are probably tons of mistakes here. I hope it's understandable, though.

ああ、そうですね。

Yeah, of course it is 日本語のがくせい. It works the same way as 日本語のせんせい、ね。 "Japanese (language) student/teacher".

Tony-さん: ありがとうございます。

私は、日本人の学生というよりも、日本人を研究している学生です。 :D

何でそれは面白いと思っているの全然分からないけど。。 汗

ところで、日本語の学生はちょっと変。「日本語を勉強している学生」の方がいいと思います。

わたしも小さいいぬわ日本語お話す。

(Is that correct for "My small dog speaks Japanese."? Heheh, I know it sounds funny, but is it gramatically correct?)

It's not perfect.
I do not understand why you used "mo" after "watashi"--are you trying to imply that your dog (as well as you) speaks Japanese? Or did you type "mo" when you meant "no"?

And second, the characters for your particles are wrong. While it sounds like "wa" the character used is "ha" not "wa" (は not わ). And, again, while it is often pronounced "o" the character used is "wo" not "o" (を not お).

You should have written:
わたし の 小さい いぬ は 日本語 を 話す。

Whoops :o Sadly, I know all of that but forgot it as I was typing. Thanks for the help, Kates. I use a Mac, so typing hirigana/katakana I think is a little bit different. -_-;

When I used a MAC, it was basically the same as when I use Windows XP. You type the romaji and as you type it converts it to hiragana. Pressing space will let you pick the kanji.

Eh, dunno -_-; Scratch the last post. I wasn't thinking too hard about when I typed it, I guess -_-;;;;; Ok, ok, nevermind then. But thank you for correcting me (maybe I'll start paying more attention to that so as not to embarass myself if I ever try to converse with a Japanese-speaker ^.^; )
