Kanji lookup
I'm just wondering what ever happened to the old TJP kanji lookup page.
That was the only place I know of that had the "Most Used Pronunciation".
I've looked all over and can't find it on the new site (though I found an old site mirror).
The 'new' site is kind of difficult to navigate, the layout is a bit hectic.

Re: Kanji lookup
Most of the old (very old) kanji pages are still here:
http://thejapanesepage.com/kanji
The kanji/vocabulary section is the next big project

I had already searched through all of those already but I couldn't find what I was looking for.
What I'm really looking for is this (but on the new site):
http://s152453462.onlinehome.us/kanji/kanji.php?u=1&kanji_id=1
Where I can enter a kanji and get the readings, etc.
I haven't found any other source that has a "Most Used Pronunciation".
Did that page not make it into the new site?

No, not yet. We have plans to do something similar but more integrated with the site. Feel free to use that old site. I will keep that up for at least another year or so.

Oh okay.
I'm glad you thought to keep the old site around for a while.
Thanks for everything.

Could you give me some ideas of things you find hectic or hard to navigate?
I'd love some feedback to help us make things easier to navigate.
Thanks!

Re: Kanji lookup
I just think there's way too much on the front page.
It's too 'busy', if you will.
There's a lot of forum-related stuff on the front page.
It makes for a real mess.
I think the forum-related stuff should only be in the forum, not on the front page.
Like:
I didn't know that was there for a long time because it's so small and I expected all navigation to be on the left!
I think it would be easier if you kept all the main navigation in one place (or near it).
And "Articles By Level" is way down at the bottom.
Maybe if you removed the forum stuff from the front page, you could move the advertisements to one side so they're not just sort of floating in the middle too.
And on the "/lessons" page, shouldn't the advertisement banner be at the bottom, under "Support those who Support TJP"?
Right now it's a little askew, not lined up with the lesson stuff.
I'm sort of nit-picking on this last part but the other stuff I feel is important.
Looking at the old site, it actually had a pretty busy front page too.
But it did at least keep all navigation under a nice "Navigation" pane on the left.

Re: Kanji lookup
Awesome reply. Thank you.
After I get the webchat launched I will probably have another look at the navigation. I redid the front page a little a day or two ago to clear up a little of the clutter, but the navigation needs another reworking.
I'll take these points into consideration when I do so.
Thanks again.

Re: Kanji lookup
Yes, thank you for that excellent input!
Phreadom did a great job on the beautification, but as time goes by and I'm allowed to add things here and there, it gets cluttered.
That of course is all Clay's doing.
