Pretty good I would say, for JLPT4 at least. I used a special grammar book besides the text books, for preparing specifically for JLPT. Apart of preparing for the test, it was great to read the same topics from another source than the textbook.

Technically, yes. But this forum doesn't really have a problem with thread drift (or complete derailment) after the original post has been adequately answered/resolved.

Oh, I forgot to mention hijacks. Hijacks are usually slapped on the wrist, even in an already answered thread. Mostly because a thread hijack is usually a legitimate question or introduction, and is not going to get the attention it deserves in the middle of some unrelated topic.

Just so you guys know...

A. Most people pass JLPT1 by studying to pass JLPT1.
B. Most Japanese colleges and jobs usually want JLPT1. (3, and 4 are totally pointless in taking)
C. It doesn't test your conversational ability at all. (mostly a test on how well you can take a test)

If you must, study hard and take at least level 2, if not 1.

I'm taking the JLPT4 for my own satisfaction to see if I can meet that goal post and have some sense of accomplishment that I've reached a personal milestone in my studies. Whether or not it translates into a job benefit, it helps me to personally feel like I've made some progress and reached a milestone.

I'm a long way away from being remotely close to the JLPT1 level, and I'd rather have a few milestones under my belt by then to show me that I'm making some progress lest I grow discouraged by how incredibly far away from there I am.

A. Most people pass JLPT1 by studying to pass JLPT1.

This may be true, but you do need to have a good level of general Japanese knowledge to even consider studying for the JLPT1. The time limit on the reading section is strict enough that you need to have built your reading speed (with comprehension and no dictionary use) to a fairly high level; that's not something you're going to be able to do just by buying some JLPT 1 prep books.

I heard the JLPT isn't actually used as an accreditation of any variety for employment or schooling. Can anyone comment on that?

As I posted here,　JLPT is still used in many companies.

Colleges/universities also use JLPT for the entrance exams of foreign　students．

Just want to ask if anyone trying to study kanji through IPPATSU is having a hard time registering? I have tried so many times and can`t get through. Please help!
