what does it mean if someone calls another "(name)-chi"?

this is found in the anime Lovely Complex, whereby a character is called "nakao-chi".

I'm wondering what the "-chi" means.

In answer to your question: Chi is just another suffix to add onto someone's name like chan or kun and it indicates a close, friendly relationship.
