On the tip of my tongue ...
There is a famous story of 300 (maybe the number is wrong) samurai who avenged their lord who was betrayed and committed seppuku. It's a classical example of bushidou ... but I don't remember the name of it. Could you help me out?
Thanks
Thanks

"Chûshingura" (trans. "The Treasury of Loyal Retainers").
AKA "The 47 Rônin."

Maybe your bigger number had to do with a certain group of Spartans who fought a battle at Thermopylae.

Go tell the samurai, thou that passest by, that here, obedient to their laws, we lie.

Re: On the tip of my tongue ...
lol.
Shame on you. Well, I suppose Sparta could have been the decedents of Samurai that wandered a bit too far west. Yea, that's it.
On the topic of the thread title... What is the Japanese equivalent to the English phrase, "On the tip of my tongue"? Thanks.

Thank you Becki,
