Roosh: Your signature says, in romaji:
yoroshiku oNAgaishiMUsu!~~
it SHOULD be:
yoroshiku oNEgaishiMAsu. (よろしくおねがいします!~~)
THAT's what I mean by 'messed up sigs'. hehehe

Wow. InuYasha is an amazing anime charcter. He is extremely hot. His name translated, I think!, means something Like Dog Demon Wars, according to my sensei, that is. Check Inu out. He rocks my... err... uh... I was going to say "boxers." But that's ridic. I don't actually WEAR boxers... I'm a chick. Oh, well. Ja ne.

I know who Inuyasha is. But the sig I was talking about doesn't mention any "Inuyasha." it says "Inyusha."

Inu is "dog," and Yasha is "demon." (Interestingly enough, "yasha" usually refers to female demons, but go figure...) Either you or the teacher is mistaking the "war" part. The full title has something about "a sengoku otogizoshi" -- and "sengoku" is a period of Japanese history called "warring states" (roughly from 1550-1600). Otogizoshi is tough to translate. Literally, it's "companion tale" -- it usually translates as "fairy tale" or something like that. We'd've considered "Cinderella" and Peter Pan as otogizoshi. (Otogizoshi, though, typically refers to a collection of such tales written from the 1400s to about 1700 and published in various collections in the Edo period as otogizoshi.)
Why, yes, my master's thesis was on an otogizoshi. How did you guess?

Wow, I'm surprised this topic isn't dead yet. This was my first thread ever on a forum, so please excuse the many, many over-posts! Sumimasen, minna-san! T.T
In current discussion, what Tony said about InuYasha's name (where this came from, I have no idea XD Conversation is funny that way.) was what I got as well. "Inu" means "dog". I looked up "Yasha" and also got "female demon". So, even though InuYasha is a male dog-demon (and has ears just like our adorable American Eskimo dog! *drools*), his name lit. translates into "dog female demon".

Argh.
Discussed on another thread (I don't remember where) it has been confirmed that yasha does not mean female demon, and just means demon.
This femaie demon meme must be stopped.
That is all.

RE: How would you say...
just... demon dog. Not female.
It's an error in EDICT that says yasha means female demon. Other dictionaries just say 'demon'. THE END!
