Font Styles

I'm always making custom creations for various reasons and in the process I'd legally inserted font styles that I'd downloaded from the internet. There're so many fonts to choose from and many resemble one another too much. Though, on occasion I'll find that perfect font style that will work perfectly with whatever I'm intending to use it for. What's your favorite font[s] thus far if you've downloaded custom fonts for school/college/work projects[etc...]?

Yeah. Otherwise I use the standard ＭＳ Ｐゴシック (MS PGothic), Meiryou, etc.

I have some cutesy ones, but they haven't seemed appropriate for the work I was doing so far.

From working in a JP Design shop, I've been told that the majority of fonts used in design (that are non-custom) are either OTF-新ゴ Pro or OTF-じゅん Pro, and the multitude of variations for each.

That of course could just be my particular company's policy though.

After some googling it looks like it can be tricky... it appears it comes with Vista and some versions of XP. But it might depend on which language version etc...

Don't use English websites for finding Japanese/Chinese font styles. I've found some decent fonts on English websites, but it's best to search for fonts in the language you're intending to use it for. Also, know your rights before you use that font for any commercial use [etc...]. Many free fonts are truly free and offer full rights of usage. Lots of free font styles are actually better in both usage and appearance when compared to retailed font styles; which can cost more than a hundred dollars for a single font style. If you're a perfectionist when it comes to design, then you'll be willing to sacrifice time finding that perfect font. Many free fonts are offered by professionals and universities. However, don't bother putting any custom fonts on your website [etc...] since you'll be the only one who can see them. "Then, how can I use custom fonts on my website [etc...]?" Well, you can use custom fonts in images and etc... Nevertheless, you'll know how to get them work if you're a professional. .... "Where are some places I can find custom fonts?" Well, no offense, but I'm not a Retriever. X: P- I recommend searching with Bing. Etc...

Ah yes... Those look good. I honestly don't think I have anything like them in my font collection though.

They must be something that you have to buy, with no free alternative.

I might have to look into adding them to my collection at some point. Thank you.

Nice! I have not bothered to go through the hassle of installing Meiryo for my tabletop PC(win xp). So whenever I surf Japanese pages on my laptop(Vista) everything just looks damn fine.

Personally, I like "kyôkasho" -- it's a font based on the one you typically see in textbooks in Japan. It's more cursive than the conventional Minchô, but also more standardized that a "penji" font.
