Geek Section
I highly recommend TJP/Phreadom add a Geek section in the forums since there's regular posts dealing with computer technology [etc...].

Re: Geek Section
Well, most people who have questions about how to get their computers working aren't geeks.
It'd be more appropriate to have a "noobie" section.

I think Stone_Cold meant discussions about Linux, web technologies relating to Japanese, etc.

Re: Geek Section
........
I'm pretty much aware that most individuals aren't experienced in computer technology [etc...] and therefore they're most certainly not Geeks. lol :^P However, I'm experienced in computer technology, but I wouldn't consider myself a geek either.
I pretty much meant anything dealing with electronics, computers, software, and etc... Yes, mostly dealing with Japan, but others could be included.
I meant TJP could create a thread for users to post anything dealing with all forms of technology in Japan* and etc... There're quite allot of threads dealing with Japanese technology (Ex. Cellular Phones, Software, and etc...) in the TJP Forums. Japan's one of the most technically advanced countries when it comes to technology. I think it would be a very appropriate section in the TJP Forums.
*The primary country's Japan, but members could be allowed to post anything else dealing with technology.

I suppose we could always ask him to clarify.

Is it possibly to be technically advanced in something not related to technology?
Technologically advanced would sound better.
Don't complain to me that people kick you when you're down. It's your own fault for lying there

Most of the posts about cellular phones end up in the Spam Dump
Sounds good to me. Unless someone has a major objection, I'll add the forum.

Re: Geek Section
Although I think there would be less confusion if you titled it "Technology Section" or "Computers and Electronics Section".
If you simply titled it "Geek Section," people with questions about computers would probably think "I'm not a geek, I'm computer illiterate!" and post in the general discussion forums

How about a compromise?

Re: Geek Section
There have been 3 sections that seem to be recurring themes... well, 2 before this new Geek section.
Study Groups, and Newbies (Beginners). Perhaps we could/should add all 3?
Study Groups would be a place to both plan and to discussion study groups that would probably take place on the chat. Logs or links to logs could be posted, points covered further etc... or like when the books were being read on the forum and occasional study groups scheduled in the chat etc. There has been a fair amount of interest in getting study groups going again in this manner.
Newbies would probably be something similar to what the Introductions forum is right now, but a little more clearly for the Beginners to hang out in to get their feet under them etc. A "safe haven" so to speak?
Clay seems to cover the Geek section pretty well.
So what does everyone think?

If you’re adding forums, care to check my request?
I’m yet to add something to the Wagawiki, but I have started to work on something.

Re: Geek Section
I don't think a seperate newbie section would really be that necessary. If I were a newbie, I wouldn't have any idea what to post there, because all questions could (should) go in other sections. The only thing I could think of is a self-introduction, which is what we have the "introductions" forum for.
New posts have been dwindling as of late; increase the number of forums and you'll further spread out what little conversations we have!

I have to agree with keatonatron here. Though I tend to like things organized in subjects and such, in this case, I think cozy is better.
