A certain interval for preventing a spammer like Suprass

I read the boards much more often than I post in them these days, and I spend pretty well every evening with my laptop on, in the TJP chat room, frequenting the new posts on a few sites to waste time.

I know the feeling. My browser (and RSS feed) are almost constantly set to TJP while I'm at work, but for some reason I never seem to actually post anything... :/

If Becki has less time because of the baby, I can take over the JP day shift.

Yeah sorry, I didn't mean to imply anything by that -- I wasn't trying to insult or criticize either phreadom or you, I just wondered if 2 additional people was enough.

I suggested in the chat a few days ago that we assign a certain number of posts a new user must make before being able to use the [img] tag or post outside links. I think that this would be the most effective way to cut down on posts like this. Sure the spammer might post tons of junk to get past that point, but at least then we'll be able to catch that person sooner.

I’m not sure if this has been suggested but if you need to expand your moderator base for tackling this problem you could create a specialized user type, that allows specifically just for those powers needed to fight spam.
