Re: Akari
Hi NileCat:
Thanks for your message!
Well, a friend of mine wants to name her daughter Akari. So he wants to know the meaning of that word and also if it has some history or any special remark. And I would love to learn how to write Akari in Japanese.
Thanks!

Re: Akari
I hope "acari" (which is pronounced the same as Japanese akari) is not "dust mites" in Spanish (though it is in Italian) ...marce wrote:Well, a friend of mine wants to name her daughter Akari.

Re: Akari
As NileCat wrote akari has to do with light or brightness. I can't tell you what it means in Spanish, although since you speak Spanish, I hope you can translate it from English to Spanish.

Re: Akari
actually I looked on Wikipedia and dust mite in Spanish is àcaro (àcaros, pl.) ... so I don't know how appropriate might be for a baby in a Spanish speaking country ...
(I'm saying this completely without sarcasm as your friend might not have seen the connection akari → àcaros → àcaro ...)

Re: Akari
Fmm... I have no idea about the pronunciation. And I don't speak Spanish...
I'll explain just about the general thought in Japan.
Akari is one of the popular names in Japan.
We have only few Kanji characters for the name, like 明里 or 安可里
But the most preferable writing would be " あかり" in all hiragana.
At least here in Japan. Of course it's only my personal opinion, though.
In Japan, parents usually name their children with some wish.
In that sense, Akari means,
Wish she be like a warm light in the dark.
or Bright and cheerful like a sun light.
or Like a beacon who can lead other people into light.
or ...You can make any story as you like.
Well, something like that.
Hope it helps.
