不自然だけど使われる言い方
Could anyone try and translate this sentence into English for me ?
Yes. I know it sounds weird.
But in Japanese we sometimes say like this when you're upset and confused.
「君は僕に嘘をついてたんじゃないって言ってるわけじゃないよね?」
Thank you.

Re: 不自然だけど使われる言い方
I'm always bad at putting these double negatives into english, but I'm thinking something along the lines of:
"You're not really trying to tell me that you're not lying, are you?"
Gah, I fail at english.

Surely you're not going to pretend you haven't been lying to me?
Surely you're not going to pretend you've been telling the truth( all this time)?
perhaps...
Tricky.

Re: 不自然だけど使われる言い方
How about this ?
「いや、確かにそれはそういうことなんだけど、俺が言ってるのはそういう意味じゃなくて、たまにはそういうことだってあるよってことなんだ」
Thank you very much !

Well, that's certainly true, but what I'm saying is not that exactly, but rather that even that kind of thing sometimes happens, if you know what I mean.

Thank you, becki !
I was always wondering how I could translate this sort of ambiguity that seems to be indigenous to Japanese.
Now I think I got a clue, thanks to all of you.
I really appreciate it.

hmmm, I wonder if you'd want to put the double negative in the translation?
why not say:
"are you trying to tell me you're not lying...?" or better yet:
"are you suggesting you're not lying?"
Would this not mean the same?

okay, I'm probably way out of my depths here, not being a native English speaker and having a very meager grasp of Japanese....^^
But Becki: What are you saying???
Or that's what my response would be...
Is this an unusual sentence in Japanese?
if not, I would translate it into something like this:
" Okay, that may be true, but that's not what I'm trying to say (exactly), just that that kind of thing does happen sometimes."
pfff, I'm improvising here.
Where does the "if you know what I mean" come from? Is that implied with "よってことなんだ" ?

Ha! I was just kind of free-styling at the end there, but I think feeling-wise it fits as a translation.
