Re: The Next Person Game in English
Well, it's not fall here. It's spring. And I'm not going to be attending any concerts, especially NOT the Britney Spears one, but I might go see the film "This is It".

Re: The Next Person Game in English
We don't drink soy sauce directly like drinking a bottle of 7-up. We usually use it as a dipping sauce. I especially like fish stewed with oyster sauce plus dark soy sauce.

Re: The Next Person Game in English
Well, excuse me but I'm afraid I don't understand the question.
It asks that if I think education is more important than a lot of distinctions, correct?
I don't get the meaning of "distinction" here.
Yahoo dictionary says:
1. The act of distinguishing; differenciation.
2. The condition or fact of being dissimilar or distinct; difference.
3. A distinguishing factor, attribute, or characteristic.
4-a. Excellence or eminence, as of performance, character, or reputation.
4-b. A special feature or quality conferring superiority.
5. Recognition of achievement or superiority; honor.
The next person will kindly explain the meaning of the question to me.
Thank you in advance !

Re: The Next Person Game in English
It's definition #5:
5. Recognition of achievement or superiority; honor.
I think a full understanding of the statement requires understanding of [American Culture: Colleges and Universities]. That would help you understand better what a (definition #5) distinction is. I wonder if Japanese students earn distinctions in college. Wrong thread for that type of question though.

No, wrong. It asks that if I think education is more important than a lot of distinctions, correct?
It is saying there are things in (the area of) education that are more important than distinctions (such as learning). The next person thinks there is more to education than a just getting a string of distinctions.

Nilecatさん、sorry for the confusion.
In short, F=fail , A* (star) or A = distinctions (90 marks and above)
And, no "a" there --- The next person thinks there is more to education than just getting a string of distinctions.
Sorry!
Nope, not running any Marathon this fall.

Re: The Next Person Game in English
No, I don't think it's a waste of money. But my place is not large enough to have a bigscreen TV. You know, it's like a ウサギ小屋 (rabbit hutch).
jcdietz03さん, SSさん, thank you for explaining.
SSさん, you weren't wrong at all! It's very good for my studying English.

Re: The Next Person Game in English
Large is subjective. I live in a small house on a small (450m2) block (plot?) by local standards but going by some of the "pencil" houses I saw in the suburbs of Tokyo this is probably a large house.NileCat wrote:.... The next person lives in a large house.

Don't complain to me that people kick you when you're down. It's your own fault for lying there

Nilecatさん、I honestly think that your English is far better than me.

SS, I hope you don't mind me correcting you, but you don't need the 'in' between the words time and gardening. Perhaps you alreay knew that. Sorry if you don't need me to correct you. Please forgive me! Only trying to help!!SS wrote:
