Im almost completely done with this project. I'm working on a line right now and I need some advice as to whether or not it makes sense, and if it is grammatically correct.


English: For example,If the wife likes making fish but, the husband doesn't like fish.He must eat it anyway
日本語：例えば、奥さんは魚を作ることが好きですでも主人は魚が好きではない、食べなくてはなりません

Context: I'm describing or attempting to describe the relationship between husband and wife in Japan, at least as it relates to food. This is what sensei told me, being a native speaker and a wife I assume she is some kind of authority on this matter

Here's my attempt at it, please feel free to correct me if it sounds odd:
例えば、奥さんは魚を作ることが好きだったら、主人が好きではないのに、食べなくてはならない。

The たら form of the verb signifies the 'if' in your sentence.

If you want to correct your sentence while keeping the original wording, it'd be like:

例えば、奥さんは魚を作ることが好きで、主人は魚が好きではないとすると、主人は魚を食べなくてはなりません。

Here's my attempt at it, please feel free to correct me if it sounds odd:
例えば、奥さんは魚を作ることが好きだったら、主人が好きではないのに、食べなくてはならない。

It'd be better to switch は and が for 奥さん and 主人 so it reads:

例えば、奥さんが魚を作ることが好きだったら、主人は好きでないのに、食べなくてはならない。

Also, 主人は好きでなくても、or 主人は好きではないのに、flows better because the subject of 食べなくてはならない is clearer that way. Either way, your sentence may be interpreted as "If the wife likes making fish and her husband doesn't like fish, she must eat it," which isn't what the OP meant.

Anyway, if you're interested in collocation and nuance, you can write it in more idiomatic Japanese, e.g.,

たとえば、奥さんが魚を料理するのが好きで、夫は魚嫌いだとします。すると結局夫の方が諦めて、魚を食べることになります。

If context says that the wife cooks everyday or something, 奥さんが魚料理好きで might work better. It all depends on the surrounding sentences and such. This kind of sentence might not flow well in your essay if your writing style is very different though.

If you want to correct your sentence while keeping the original wording, it'd be like:

例えば、奥さんは魚を作ることが好きで、主人は魚が好きではないとすると、主人は魚を食べなくてはなりません。
