Grin like a shot fox?!?

My family and I came across this phrase on several Engrish t-shirts this weekend and were wondering about its origin. A quick google turns up a few seemingly Australian hits. Can any Aussie members confirm or deny the validity of this expression and give a meaning for it? One wouldn't expect a shot fox to be doing to much grinning after all...

I'm with the other Aussies in that I have never heard it.

Not sure why a shot fox would be "smugly satisifed". Maybe he knows that there is no longer a fox bounty

I'm not elderly but I have lived in rural areas across three states and I have never heard any one use it. I've got relatives living in rural areas so I'll ask them too.

A bit of a necropost , but I came across another T-shirt with the same phrase yesterday at the mall.



I think whoever designs these things just has a stock bag of phrases that they pick from because they tend to repeat a lot of the same odd phrases. I'm curious as to where they got them from in the first place though; just playing pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey with an open dictionary, perhaps?

I suspect many English speakers would be pushed to correctly use "bower" in a sentence.

I hope they don't catch you taking pics of these items in the mall. The manufacturer may think you are trying to steal their original ideas.

and that makes sense, as a fox looks like it's smiling, even when dead, due to it's facial make up. so .... who knows..

As I said previously I had never heard this saying until becki-san started this thread and since that time I have asked numerous people across this country and not one of them had heard it either.

So I have learnt some new Strine from an American living in Japan
