気持ち悪い as gross?

I was watching a Japanese game show last night on TV and was surprised to see 気持ち悪い translated as "gross" in the subtitles. At the time, people were being spun around on giant revolving spinners. Would this be a natural translation? I've never thought of 気持ち悪い as being 'gross' before. My dictionary has 'gross' as ひどい。

It can be gross in the sense of disgusting, as in gross insects or a creepy/gross person, or it can be gross in the sense of feeling sick or nauseated, which seems more likely given the context. Even in English I think I might say "Wow, I feel GROSS!" If I had just gotten spun around on one of those machines.

ひどい has a sense of terrible / horrible or cruel and carries more of a value judgement whereas 気持ち悪い is a visceral reaction.

on the flip side, I had always learned that kimochiwarui was gross/unpleasant and it appears that Jim Breen's defintion is the same.

気持ち悪い 【きもちわるい】 (adj-i) bad feeling; feeling bad; disagreeable; unpleasant; revolting; gross; disgusting

Of course I think it matters on how it's used, as Becki mentioned.

「あいつ、気持ち悪い！」 -- He's gross!
「気もい!」 -- Even slangier for 気持ち悪い

Thanks everyone for your comments. I see how it depends on the situation and how the word is used.

I watched the recording of the show again today, and there was another point where the show's compare how said 気持ち悪い and that time it was translated as 'dizzy'. The poor contestants were still on the spinning machine. The thing was spinning so fast that even watching it, I felt dizzy. I can't imagine how they would've felt. It's comical to watch but I definitely wouldn't have wanted to be one of the contestants.

I should have realized that. :/
They recently brought it back on TV for some specials.
I always used to watch it back in the 00s, when Chairman Kaga was hosting it with that little girl.

Kagome says this in Episode 1 of InuYasha. The fansub I watched says "This is gross," which fits in the context; not sure about the official subtitle or the dub. I didn't think it was unnatural.
