I have been trying to find あん人 in the dictionary file using JWPce, but I am not getting any hits. I was curious to find the kanji for the あん part, as the じん part was obvious.
I was thinking it could be 案人, referring to his use of cartography, and map drawing skills? Am I on the right track?

So then I would guess that it would be a combination of 按ずる and possibly 針路?

According to WWWJD it's "(1) (arch) navigation by magnetic compass" or "(2) pilot". WWWJD is a good online dictionary to check!

Yeah, after looking at it further, I realize that the dictionary file I am using with JWPce is missing quite a few words. It's the default package that came with the download. I appreciate the link, that's a Japanese dictionary I have never seen before. I'll add it to my bookmarks.
