Dog names
Hi there!! お久しぶりです!!I haven't been around for a while. Did you miss me?!!?
Actually I have been lurking the forums but haven't been able to log-in, due to my idiotic PC.
My question today is a bit of a strange one. My friend bought a female dalmatian puppy and has asked me for a cool name in Japanese. He wanted to call her Ninja or Kabuki!! But he really wants to say "Spotty" in Japanese. I'm not sure what this would be. Spot would just be スポット I guess or 点々!!
Are there any cool Japanese names which might suit a cute female dalmatian pup?
Can anyone help?
Thanks.

Re: Dog names

If it was a German Shepherd 厘点々 (sic) would be a really cool name

What about 染み (しみ)?

It sounds kind of like a cat's name, but what about たまちゃん?

Re: Dog names
Hello Karen, I hope you're doing fine.
斑点はんてん (doesn't sound very nice)
紋もん(quite different from spotty)
濁だく(sounds unrefined and impure)
まだら and ポチポチ (sounds okay to me)
By the way, have you ever watched 「盲導犬クイールの一生」? They named it "Quill" because there's a spot near the left abdomen which looked like a bird's feather. I'm just curious how "spotty" is the dog? 満点まんてん gives a sense of "perfect" or "ideal" in a good way. 満天 まんてん as in 満天の星 (countless stars in the sky) sounds like the "spots" look like stars the way I see it.

Re: Dog names
Yeah, I get what you mean.
There are many mixed species. Ive seen dalmatian with very few + very faint spots.
This dalmatian has very unique markings.

It certainly does and to my knowledge that is a long way from the breed standard. I suspect it is a Dalamtian cross.
.... Balance of markings is a feature. Most dogs have groups of spots close together. A few spots that join are acceptable, provided they can be seen to be spots. They should not form a conglomeration of ugly proportions. Clear definition of spots is important. The edges should not blend into the ground colour so as to appear grey or have a dark halo. Spots in size FIVE to a TWENTY cent coin. Spots on the body are larger than those on the head, legs and tail. The ears should be spotted, but this is not essential just as spots on the tail are not essential ......
For those that don't know an Aussie 5 cent coin is ~20mm in diameter and a 20 cent coin ~29mm in diameter.
But I'm no expert on Dalmatians, German Shepherds are more my thing.

Back on topic, tokai devotee-san, has a name been chosen yet?

Yay!! よかった!!
Well, I think my computer is finally behaving itself. I hope!
As for the dog, she's being picked up next weekend to go to her new forever home. She doesn't have a lot of spots yet as dalmatians are born without their spots and they get them later. She's a liver coloured dalmatian and has a brown nose and she's very pretty! So far, my friend has chosen 'Ten-ten' or Tama-chan for the names. Both are cute names. But since one of my Japanese sister's names is Tama-chan, I kinda don't particularly like that one for a pet dog!
One of my other friends has a great dane puppy and although it's still a puppy, it's huge! They named it Zilla -- which is short for Godzilla!!! Very appropriate!
