Dochira ka

Post by rachxo » Sun 09.12.2010 7:10 pm

Hi! I am going through JLPT tests and am wondering why one of the answers to this question is... dochira ka... the sentence is dochira ka suki na hou wo totte kudasai.

What does dochira ka mean? Or, why is it ka and not ga, ha or de?(the other options) I thought it would be ga.........Thanks again!

か tends to indicate possibility - for example -

I don't remember that time clearly

The question marks I put in to show how か is used where there are different possibilities. It's not a great explanation, I hope it makes sense.

The way I like to think of this combination of interrogative + か is as an answer to a question involving the same words.

Somewhere
Where?

Something
What's that?

Sometime
When will (you) come?

For some reason (somehow)
Why did you do that?

In some way (somehow)
How do you use chopsticks?

Someone
Who are your favourite singer(s)?
