卵
I have a discussion going about the pronunciation of the word 卵...
Based on what I learned and from what I make of different sound tracks, Jim Breen's dict for one, I would say emphasis is on the second syllable.
But someone who is currently living in Japan is trying to convince me it's actually more on the first syllable....
Anyone here care to comment on this?

Re: 卵
Pocket Kenkyusha has たまご. NHK Akusento Jiten says "たまご (たまご)" (the second one being "flat") -- I'm guessing the parentheses indicate a rather uncommon pronunciation, since most entries that give two pronunciations don't use them.
It'd be nice if we had good resources for pitch accent online, but unfortunately I don't know of any. dictionary.goo.ne.jp marked accent for a long time, but they stopped doing so a while back for some reason.

Re: 卵
Well, there are for sure more ways words are pronounced.
I've been browsing YouTube last night and did find several pronunciations of egg, some of which prove my discussion partner right:

The YouTubes are at the end of the thread....

Re: 卵
If you include dialects like that in the video in the thread, there for sure are various intonation though, when it comes to "standard Japanese accent", ten out of ten people would agree that the accent should come to the second vowel.
EDIT:
This is a free speech synthesis software page.

Try and type たまご in the input window and press 再生する(play) button.
Although synthesized accent is not always correct, in terms of たまご, the first character (Sayaka)'s intonation is perfectly the standard one. Intonation-wise, the rest of the characters' would sound the same.
