Am I translating this correctly?

I'm trying to make sense of the following:
「ポケ」が何か知らなかったので、調べてみたら
すごくおいしそうですね！
日本食にも近い気がします。

Based on my limited nihongo skills and with help from the awesome Jisho.org, I translate the above as:
I've never heard of "poke". I looked it up and it sounds delicious. It's similar to Japanese food.

Your translation sounds fine to me.
The last sentence has a nuance that the writer is "guessing" or had the "impression".

That last sentence gave me a hard time. I wasn't really able to translate it as musch as guess at it based on content. Anyway, thanks for the help.

I didn't know what poke was so I looked it up and looks quite delicious. It looks similar to japanese food.

Look carefully at the sentence structure, don't forget the ので and ~たら (he looked it up because he didn't know about it. and after researching it, he got the impression it looks delicious.)
The last sentence is not complex, but maybe the concept looks strange for english speakers ("close distant" to food?) If you understand the 気がします its not so hard.
