tomodachi is probably more appropriate than nakama if you are meaning friends. :)

From WWWJDIC;

tomodachi - 友達(P); 友だち 【ともだち】 (n) friend; companion;
nakama - 仲間 【なかま】 (n) company; fellow; colleague; associate; comrade; mate; group; circle of friends; partner;
Don't complain to me that people kick you when you're down. It's your own fault for lying there

Japanese-language-learning nakama might be more suited than "friends" depending on the person I guess ^^

Though...
Someone can "become" a nakama, and you can probably "find" nakama too, but can you "make" nakama?
Hmm ^^

Anyway, welcome! :D
