Books on Japanese Culture

Post by tuber97 » Wed 04.13.2011 12:08 pm

I'm doing a big project for school about Japan, and my topic has to do with the cultures of 「仕方がない」、「がまん」、etc., specifically on the origins of them. If anyone knows of any books or resources about this, could you please help me out? Thank you!

The Japanese Wikipedia page for 仕方がない has a brief section on the cultural background.

The Japanese Wikipedia page for がまん is very brief however the English page has a bit more information. As がまん is a teaching of Zen Buddhism you could direct your further research in that direction.

The Wikipedia pages contain references which may provide you with further information.
