Apart from very simplistic grammar, kana, a few kanji, and some phrases. I don't really know japanese. I'm determined to learn, but I don't know really where to start .......

Can anyone help me here??

Get a good textbook and stick with it. Many people here like Genki, Japanese for everyone and Minna no Nihongo. Find the one that seems the best fit for you, and work through it. Pop in here to ask questions when you get stuck. I think structure is very important for self-learners and just learning things haphazardly without a plan will lead to frustration and confusion.

Personally, the way I did it was to use the internet to find free resources. After you search for awhile you'll start to find lots of hidden gems. I'd suggest places like Tae Kim's Guide
(http://www.guidetojapanese.org/learn/), Koohii forums (http://forum.koohii.com/index.php) [do RTK if you want I wouldn't suggest it, but everyone has a different learning style]. Also, use some online dictionaries like: WWWJDIC (http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/~jwb/cgi- ... dic.cgi?1C), goo (http://dictionary.goo.ne.jp/), etc. There are also a lot of good programs out there like Tagani Jisho (http://www.tagaini.net/). For learning vocab I'd go with Anki which is an SRS (http://ankisrs.net/) you can download decks or make your own. There is probably quite a bit more out there. First and foremost I would suggest reading Tae Kim's Guide one of the best things out there in my opinion. Besides these things, I would suggest you learn vocab and grammar at the same time (this means reading sentences and analyzing what it means, etc.), also spend at least 5 or 10 minutes a day learning 2-4 kanji (their meanings, their readings (on and kun), and some compunds/words used with those kanji). This is a good start in my opinion, and there is a lot more out there, but like I said here are just a few. Enjoy.
