I'm currently reading a book called 「手書きできれいな漢字が書ける本」, where I learned this word. It's the small red-circled part at the beginning of a stroke (see below), which makes your kanji look nicer.

Hm, I don't think there are many words that begin with がつ. And of course ガツン ends with an ン.

EDICT has 月輪 (がつりん）, full moon, but my autocomplete doesn't like it. I'll opt for an easy one, and go with 月中 (がつちゅう), "all month long".
