Konban Wa!

Post by Hatsu Koi » Thu 12.22.2005 12:07 am

Konban Wa! Watashi wa Kelsey. Genki desu ka? Hajimemashite!
こんばん わ!わたし わ Kelsey. げんき です か?はじめまして!

Aaaaaaand thats about all I can say in Japanese right now. Well, my name is Kelsey, and I'm 11. I'm trying to learn Japanese, and possibly French, Spanish or Mandarin Chinese. I'm about to start studying Katakana either right after I post this, or tomorrow. Most likely the latter, seeing as I am still trying to get the feel of everything and read Megatoyko at the same time.

Erm, my head hurts and I can't think of anything else to say right now, so Bye Bye!!!

Hi Kelsey

Learning a new language at such a young age... sugoi!

First lesson up front... the 'wa' in konbanwa and watashiwa are actually done with the hiragana for 'ha'. Don't ask why, it's kind of archaic. It's related to 'wa' in those cases being what are known as particles.

I'd like to suggest doing some minor reading on grammar before you continue (well, probably learn katakana first, because that's easy).

I've recently been directed to this site as a very nice introduction.

You don't have to read it -all-. But maybe just skim the lessons for now for a basic overview, and go back later when you feel ready to take it on more in-depth.

Take care!
