How are they different, "You are right" and "You are correct"?

"You are correct"は「どちらかと言うと、あなたの方が正しいです。」の意味になるというのは、本当ですか？

Usually, these two phrases are exactly the same, and both of them can be translated to 'sono toori desu' as you say.

The only difference is as follows:

A: 'We can't use this; it's useless'

B: 'You are right.' (You are correct sounds strange. In Japanese, I guess it would be 'soudane.')

In other words, 'You are correct' and 'sono toori desu' can only be used in certain places, whereas 'you are right' and 'soudane' can be used more often and freely.'

So, "you are correct" sometimes sounds strange where "you are right" is used normally.
But when it sounds strange, what does it imply?
I read a book written by an American, David Thayne. In that book he says that to express その通りです in English you should use "you got that right" or "you're right". If you say "you are correct", in his opinion, it would sound like どちらかと言うと、あなたの方が正しいです.
I was wondering if this is right (or correct?).

Hmm, I would say 'you are correct' has an implication more like: あなたの言うことは正しいです

For example, if I said 'It's sunny today, isn't it?' You would not reply 'you are correct / あなたの言うことは正しいです.

'You are correct' is probably more common in academic discussion, I suppose.

After a discussion or argument, it could be 「どちらかと言うと、あなたの方が正しいです」

Hmm... I'm not sure but perhaps the author of the book has the meaning of 「どちらかと言うと」wrong.

In english however, Correct is always replaceable by Right. However not the other way around.

Do I turn left here?
Right.
(Does he mean turn right, or turning left is right?)
