Telling someone to pass a message to another person

this is weird i tot i submitted it already
Hi, I've been trying to translate the following, but it doesn't sound right to me:

The sentence: "Tell father that I will be going home at 7"
My translation: "(watashi wa) 7 ji ni kaeru toosan ni itte"

I feel that there's something missing between "kaeru" and "toosan". :sweatdrop: My intuition says to put "koto o" in there. Because when I tried splitting the sentence into two, it'll be like:
"(watashi wa) 7 ji ni kaeru. Sore o toosan ni itte". Somehow this sounds fine--I think I heard it been said in one of the anime...

Anyways, my japanese study is still in the intermediate level and I still have not come across such example. But if it's the person who's going to relay the message, then that I can do. And it should be: "Kare wa 7 ji ni kaerimasu to imashita".

I really hope someone will help me with this.

Hi bunalz3, welcome to TJP.

Your “intuition” is totally fine!
But if I were you, I’d use simple “to” there; “7 ji ni kaeru to toosan ni itte”
Although “koto o” is ok, I’m afraid it’d sound kind of redundant.

Hope this helps.

Would you not prefer "tsutaete" instead of "itte"? It would seem more natural to me.

Oh, thanks for the welcome!

So...I'd just need to add "to"? That's sure is a weird one though... Hmm, I think I'll ask my lecturer after the sem break about that.

Actually, I was gonna use that instead, but it doesn't sound that natural to me since I only learnt of that word ("tsutaetai" to be exact) from various anime just recently (lol)--"tsutaete"...perhaps I need to try using it from now, I guess. :sweatdrop:

Thanks for the help, guys! :D
