View topic - Quick question about 間
Anyway, I've seen 間 used by itself, sometimes as a suffix and sometimes as a noun, and I'm not sure of the correct pronounciation in certain contexts. Here's some examples
私がいない間 kan? aida?
also, for 後
***edit*** by the way, I posted another question after the reply to this.

いない間 is sometimes read ま especially when it is followed by に.
私がいない間に (わたしがいないまに), however, I’d say あいだ is more common read even in this case. The point is that あいだに sounds more colloquial whereas まに relatively sounds like a literary language.
For instance, in the following sentence, either way is fine but, the latter would sound slightly stiffer, I think.
Also, it is sometimes read かん in our real life.
わたしがいないかんに or かれがねているかんに
I’d say it is a very exceptional read so as to put an emphasis on the meaning and it sounds stiff, though, some people use it like it is a lingo in their field. So I cannot say it is wrong, JFYI.
