Re: Help translating "Poor Impulse Control"
If I were ever to do a tattoo, I'd go old school Yakuza and get the full set up.. sleeves, bodywork and legs.. colored and with lots of cool Japanese style pictures.. Not a single Kanji would be in there. Why? I think a picture tells a better story that some stupid strokes of kanji..

I was just looking up the tattoos from 龍が如く to post on here, because they:re some really nice examples of japanese tattoos.
then I found this.

If I ever get a tattoo, this is going to be it.
Japanese styled video game tattoo.

Alright, that's the third time now that someone claimed to post an image and all I see is the word:

This isn't a joke going around is it?

I think you need to check your computer 'cause I can see it just fine. It's a full-back tattoo of Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach and and other assorted Mario characters done in a dramatic style.

Re: Help translating "Poor Impulse Control"
2 years later, but I finally have time and money, time to bite the bullet and get my first tattoo! I still would like "poor impulse control"
Any other suggestions for a 3x3 block before I go with this one?

I love the Mario and Luigi tat, just went back and reread this thread in preparation and to make sure I had characters right.

Re: Help translating "Poor Impulse Control"
Well, I would say getting a kanji tattoo is a prime example of having poor impulse control.
So have you read this page yet? Why anybody would still want a kanji tattoo after reading it is beyond me.

Some people are very simple beings. And as such, the tattoo will accurately reflect what's on the inside.

Re: Help translating "Poor Impulse Control"
Just out of curiosity, I wanted to see what alc.co.jp had since they tend to pull out various phrases so it makes for good examples at times. They had a related phrase, impulse control disorder 衝動調節障害 so yeah, I'd agree that trimming it to 3 characters ain't gonna happen.
They also had these phrases:
have poor impulse control
衝動のコントロールが悪い、衝動をうまくコントロールできない
out-of-control impulse
抑え切れない衝動
control an impulse
衝動を抑える[抑制する]
lose control over one's impulse
衝動を制御[コントロール]できなくなる
To be poor at doing something though I tend to say へた which just doesn't work here.
I am on the side of the fence of not getting it done though. Your body, your choice. I just don't like words in general as tattoos, especially languages the person doesn't understand and one that the tattoo artist doesn't know so then the lettering looks really bad. I may one day get my Japanese family crests or traditional tattooing of my family's region, but even then, I'd want it done in Japan.

Re: Help translating "Poor Impulse Control"
If I was translating Snow Crash, I might have a certain character have,
衝動調節障碍
tattooed on his forehead.
I wouldn't, however, recommend getting 'impulse + control + disorder' tattooed anywhere, and before getting it tattooed on your forehead I would check what it actually says in the Japanese translation of Snow Crash. (You lose points for getting it tattooed anywhere else!)
