あって

Postby themonk » Thu 01.19.2012 1:03 pm

その小さい部屋には小さい 入り口が あって、 庭から 入ります。

This is from JBP. What does あって mean here? The translation attached to the book is:

The room has a small entrance that you enter from the garden.

I know that the translation has already smoothed things over. Thank you.

The dictionary form is ある, which means 存在する which can be translated as "exist", I think. :)

And it's in the ~て form because the ~て form means "[verb] and":

"In the small room, there is a small entrance and you come in from the garden."
