Question about object counters

Postby Curry_Girl » Wed 04.24.2013 2:28 am

I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but no other boards on the site seemed to fit.

If I wanted to use a counter for an object like nikuman and other types of dumplings and bread rolls I would use the counter ko, right? I wasn't quite sure because all of the examples used fruits and didn't mention if it could be used for all types of round and small foods.

It appears that they are often counted with 個 (ko) but if you want to seem refined - or perhaps old fashioned is more accurate - they can be counted with 団 (dan).

I used the つ counter for anything I wasn't sure of in japan and nobody ever batted an eye. :sweatdrop:

But yeah, pretty much any plain object that fits in a grasped hand would use 個, but exceptions exist.

That's a good guideline :)

There are just so many counters to remember and it doesn't help if you don't get to use them all often.

When I am not sure, I just use つ :P
