Can import games be used to teach Japanese?

Post by raidramon0 » Mon 05.20.2013 12:46 am

I have a few games for my PS3, PSP and PS Vita straight from Japan. I was wondering if I could use them to help me learn Japanese.

Well sure, but it's effectiveness will vary greatly depending on your current level of Japanese.

If you're a beginner and can't read/ look up kanji yet, you'll be straight out of luck playing on consoles as you can't just 'edit copy edit paste' the words you don't know to find their meaning.

Secondly, while immersion is always a good thing, I believe beginners should immerse themselves in beginner material before intermediate (video games).

Also if you don't know basic grammar yet, imho forget everything I've just said and go straight to schooling yourself the basics old school style.

That being said... what level are you? :sweatdrop:
