correcting an answer to a letter

Postby Majlie » Mon 01.27.2014 11:11 am

こんいちは、みんなさん、

A japanese friend of mine has sent a really big letter to me (including Cards, Sweets etc. but it wasn't a packet)

Could somebody please correct my answer to it?

Bさん、
遅く答えてごめなさい。
お大きな手紙は素晴らしい驚きでした!本当にうれしかった!どうもありがとう (笑)
今私の部屋の中にはきれいなデコレーション沢山があります。特Bさんの好きなカドや日本の建物はとてもかわいい~
なるほどね、スイスに来られないのはざんねんですね…
お母さんにお大事に… (How can I say that properly, that I wish her mother to get well ,?)
次の日本に行く時ぜったいに名古屋(なごや)に行きたいな~ その時に何か飲みに行ければうれしくなります。
PS、ちさいなおみやげだけど、スイスのチョコレートはスイスについ一番人気おかしです。

I would be very grateful for help..

Not part of the letter, but thought I'd correct it: こんいちは->こんにちは.

Honorific お attaches to nouns, not adjectives, so お大きな手紙->大きな手紙 or 大きなお手紙 (not sure if お手紙 is commonly used.)

デコレーション沢山があります->デコレーションが沢山あります

特Bさんの...->特にBさんの...

ちさいな->ちいさい (i-adjective, doesn't take na)

人気おかし->人気なおかし

As for the mother getting well, a search on the Eijiro dictionary hosted on alc.co.jp turned up this phrase:

彼が早く快復することを心からお祈りしています。 (You'd want to substitute お母さん for 彼 of course.)

早くこたえてくれましたありがとう!

[quote="richvh"]人気おかし->人気なおかし

As for the mother getting well, a search on the Eijiro dictionary hosted on alc.co.jp turned up this phrase:

彼が早く快復することを心からお祈りしています。 quote]

Hmm, I wonder if that's not a bit "too much" because I don't know her so well and neither do I know if her mother has an illness or if she just Needs care because of her Age..
(Should have mentioned it before, sorry)

Is there a more "distanced" Expression? like a more formal Version of お大事に?

Searching on お大事に, ALC has a few suggestions. Leaving out 気をつけて which isn't really appropriate for a third person to the best of my knowledge (it's more a "watch out" or "take care of yourself" than a "get better"), there's 早く元気になって and a couple others there to consider.
