LOL
Hey go easy on Holly Wood. They have a hard enough time thinking as it is.
Take the 3rd Harry Potter for example. That director totally wrecked the movie! :@

RE: Geisha
can you get the book from the library? There have been crappy books I liked, and critically acclaimed books I couldn't make it past the first few chapters. Give it a go, maybe you will like it.
I haven't actually read it, so can't give a good review, just wanted to make the library suggestion. I rarely buy fiction anymore, I like to test it first.

Books like "Ties that Bind, Ties that Break." are boring to most people but I find them verry intresting. This is strange since I normaly like to read fiction books like "Howl Moving Castle" and "Harry Potter."
I have copy of the book on hold at the library. Everybody is trying to read it because of the movie I guess.
anyway.. Thanks for all your opinions!:)

I've heard the movie described as Pretty Woman set in Japan. If that's true, the premise alone is pretty retarded.

Hmm, I actually liked the book lol. I was a bit confused when I had read at the beginning that it was suppose to be based on a woman's real life, then read at the end how it was fiction. The Geisha that sued him supposedly came out with her own book on it.
I didn't particularly like the way the book ended, but I guess that's how things were in Japan... Can't wait to see the movie though. I don't see what the big fuss is over the people playing the roles being Chinese is. I mean, we have white people here that play russians in movies, and other roles that are not of their ethnicity.

This photo alone should tell you all you need to know about how "accurate" and well done the film is.
This sort of mistake is absolutely unforgivable, and totally inexplicable.
I'm stunned beyond belief.

I flipped out in the theater when I saw that... of course, I got myself a lot of angry, "SHHHH!"'s from the people around me, but meh.

Aaa... The movie wasn't that bad, but I'm still pretty irritated that the lead actresses aren't Japanese. You woudn't see William Schatner playing LaVar Burton's role in Roots (Kuta Kinte sp?).

Yes. That's the ultimately mistake. A japanese movie without a japanese actress as main actress ?! Rethink, Mister Director !

I saw the movie a week or two ago and right as she was doing that big dance there was a soft little beat like bamboo against rock. Anyway the beat began to speed up and I instantly began to think of those Japanese comercials for Poki. I was just waiting for someone to jump out and start screaming "ANATA NO WATASHI NO POKI!" I was about to do it myeslf. LOL Anyway I had to restrain myself from laughing.

I thought the book was ok, but I disliked the movie a lot. It went ubber fast....but it did follow the book to the letter except it had to cut out a lot of things to make the movie shorter.

Yea they did that a lot didn't they. Im reading the now actualy. Im almost finished. Compaired to a lot of other movies they did a good job of fallowing the book to the letter. They wasted no time adding in extra scenes that were not in the book.
However they cut out like half the book so you only see part of the story. If you didn't read the book first you will get really confused. Like they dont explain why that one girl name is "pumpkin" I kept thinking that this couldn't possible the girls real Japanese name. It turns out it was a nickname Chiyo gave her.
So I sugest you read the book first. Other than that it was a good movie.

Hollywood has a bad habit of using actors that aren't geographically or ethnically correct. For Instance:
Dragonheart: Sean Connery as a dragon? I didnt buy it for a second
Star Wars I-III: Natalie Portland from Naboo? I doubt it
Terminator 1-3: Schwarzenegger from the future...certainly, but from where...

RE: Geisha
My favorite non-geographically correct actor scene had to be in the beginning of Day after tomorrow. It shows a dirty "japanese" city with lots of people eating ramen outside in rather taiwanese style ramen shops. A couple of homeless guys are arguing about garbage with a few policemen. Already very NOT Japanese.
Then people start talking in Japanese.
And they have accents...
It was completely surreal. My wife and I just watched it and went HUH?
(EDIT)
Just out of curiousity, I checked IMDB on the actors, and they are aparently Japanese. Makes me even more curious about the accent thing. Or maybe the wife and I are just crazy.
