"tanda" wa nan desu ka?
hihi...juz wanna know the meaning of "tanda" (or is it itanda?)...heard it a few times but still cant figure it out...does it represents the past tense or something? thanky thanx...

Hi! I guess it would be helpful to know the context...
I'm guessing it's a 'ta' (ending of plain past) + contracted version of のだ (='the fact is', AKA explicativeの + copula, very well explained here IMHO http://www.guidetojapanese.org/particles3.html, "The 「の」 particle as explanation" section).

anyway my IME yields things like 短だ (tanda)..so i was puzzled that it may mean "short"...haha... =p

What Gaijian is saying is that it is not a single word, it is part of a conjugation
僕等 は 泣いて いたんだ
That space needs to be taken out
僕等 は 泣いていたんだ
"We were crying"
なく is to cry
ないていた is were crying
んだ is a contraction of のだ, and a common ending for sentences in plain form.
